A savings game for Māori and Pasifika whānau in Aotearoa. You pick how much you will save each week, and once a week EKKO checks your real bank balance to see if you did it. Every week you hit builds your streak.

Sign up, connect your bank, and pick the account you save into. Then start a game: choose your weekly amount and how many weeks it runs. After that, just save. EKKO does the checking.

No. A free account connects your bank for 12 weeks. You can start a real game of up to 12 weeks, or join one from a link, checked for real. No card needed.

Never. Your savings stay in your own bank account, in your name, the whole time. EKKO only reads the balance. There is no EKKO wallet and nothing is ever moved to us. If EKKO disappeared tomorrow, your money would be exactly where you left it.

The connection is read-only: EKKO can see balances and transactions and cannot move a cent. You log in at your own bank through Akahu, an open banking company from Aotearoa, so EKKO never sees your bank login. The key Akahu gives us is locked with strong encryption, never written to logs and never sent to your browser. EKKO's own formal accreditation is still in progress, and we will keep saying so until it is done.

Open Your bank inside the app and press connect. Akahu takes you to your own bank to log in, then sends you back to pick the account you save into. You need a confirmed email. While EKKO is small, only five people can have a bank connected at once. If it's full, you'll be told straight away.

On a free account, EKKO emails you about a week before your 12 weeks are up, never less than six days. If you are in a game, your bank stays connected until that game ends. After that EKKO disconnects it, and a free account can't connect a bank, or start or join a game. Plus ($7 a week) keeps it connected.

At 5:30pm Aotearoa time, once a week, on your check day. The person who starts the game picks the day it begins, and that same day is the first check - so a first week can be shorter. EKKO reads the balance of the account you save into and checks it against where you should be by then. Reach it and the week is a HIT. Fall short and it's a MISS.

Once a game has started, a miss uses a lifeline, a second chance. Whoever started the game sets how many, up to three. Miss with none left and you are out of that game, and you keep what you saved.

From the number you pick, never from your income. It is exactly what you pick, every week, for the whole game - it never goes up on its own. It changes only if you change your level.

One game, Battle Royale, on any plan. Do it on your own, or send the link to friends and whānau before it starts. Everyone picks their own weekly amount, and the game starts on the day the person who started it sets. On Free, a game you start runs up to 12 weeks. A free account's bank connection ends after 12 weeks, and playing needs a bank connection.

Start a game, pick the day it begins, and send the link. Before that day nothing is checked and nothing counts — you are waiting. Your line for week one is your weekly amount, and what you already have in your account counts toward it. Tap I'm in to say you are in; anyone who has not by the start day is not in the game, and the game only starts if the host is in. At 5:30pm on that day it begins on its own: the link stops working and a miss uses a lifeline. The full rules are in Game rules.

Free is $0. Plus is $7 a week: it keeps your bank connected and lets games run up to 52 weeks. See the plans.

They closed on 5 October 2026, so there's one game now. You can still save on your own: start a game and just don't send the link to anyone. Solo stopped paying weekly rewards on 2 October 2026, and everything earned before then has been paid out.

On the Arena page. The first time, you set up where to be paid through Stripe. After that, press claim. Your part of the first Battle Royale's pool can be claimed once that game ends, and you have 90 days to claim it before it expires. EKKO takes no cut and covers the transfer fee. Leaving a game early never takes away what you already earned.

In Your plan, in the menu under your account. It stays on until the end of the week you've paid for. If you still have free weeks left or a game running, your bank stays connected. Otherwise EKKO disconnects it, so nothing keeps reading your bank after you go.

Yes. On the Account page you can switch emails off at any time.

Yes, from the Account page, any time. Your bank connection and bank account details are removed first, apart from a blank entry for any account a game was checked against, and any plan you pay for stops, then your login and profile go at once, and the rest of your personal details after 30 days. Game results are kept for at least 7 years so any result can still be checked. Payment records are kept for as long as the law requires. Stripe, which takes the payments, keeps the payment and payout records it must keep. You can download the account details EKKO holds about you from the same page before you go. The download does not yet include everything: your name, date of birth and phone number, the money figures on your game seats, and your friends and messages are left out. Email chow@ekko.nz for those.
